Central Heating Systems are great for heating water in home and you can have hot water, and heated rooms with heat levels easily controlled by a thermostat control system somewhere in the house. The drawbacks are that if the boiler breaks down, you won’t have any heating or hot water in the house until it is repaired; they also require maintenance over time and this can be costly.

Therefore you have to plan ahead, set some money aside for the average costs of repairs to the boiler and just don’t spend it. This way you won’t be caught out unexpectedly in an emergency when the boiler goes down.

In terms of the situation, the best way to plan ahead for this is to have portable oil radiators somewhere in the house in storage just in case the heating goes out leaving the house exposed to the winter elements. Nearly every home has a kettle, so not having hot water from the boiler is not really a problem in the short term as you can boil the kettle, or heat up some water in a pan and do it that way.
